CTRL is an augmentation of you — not an intermediary that stands between you and your own work.
The data was always yours. Your notes, your decisions, your tools — they live as plain markdown and structured frontmatter on your own disk. A hundred years from now, you'll still open them in vim. That's the bar we hold every feature to: can you open your local files and still get the value, with our app nowhere in sight? If the answer is no, the design is wrong, and we rework it.
Every read hits your machine first. Writes commit locally and sync afterward. Pull the network and CTRL keeps working — the cloud is an augmentation, never a dependency. Third-party systems are sync providers, not sources of truth; your local copy wins every conflict.
Your identity is a keypair in your OS keychain. Our servers don't know you exist. Your model keys are yours — no markup, no middleman, and we literally cannot read them. There's no "export" feature because nothing was ever imported: the vault folder simply is your data.
Notes are markdown. Tools are .mcp.json. Skills are SKILL.md. Memory is CLAUDE.md and AGENTS.md. All of it is text you can read, diff, fork, and keep — even the agent's assets, not just your documents. Nothing is a binary blob you'd need our app to decode.
CTRL is the stitching layer: the Ctrl-key, the ambient workspace, the open registry of capabilities. Bring any brain you like. The commons of shared tool-definitions stays free and is the network it runs on. That's the whole business — the substrate, never your data.
